Early in the 4th Millennium BC, pioneering Neolithic settlers followed the Thames westwards to its headwaters in the limestone uplands of the Cotswolds, creating dozens of causewayed enclosures and tombs at spectacular locations overlooking the Severn Vale. This area also boasts one of Britain’s great stone circles: the enigmatic King’s Men at Rollright.
